May-June 2016

As I want this blog to cover our whole venture to Utah with the family, I'll have to go back in time 9 months ... 9 months during which we built a new life, and when I say a "new life" I'm not talking about the kind which takes up all of your time, but a new life which has given us time!

Ok, so I stopped working as a safety engineer @ Belgocontrol as from May 2016 for the 'material' preparation of our move to Utah:

✈ Beginning of May we went one week to Utah to find a house and schools.
After 2 days of visiting the most awful houses, wรญth a jet lag, in a rainy cold Utah with its typical American 'villages' without a real center and the cosiness that goes with it, we felt more like cancelling the whole thing than anything else! Luckily that feeling only lasted one evening. The next morning we started off with new courage and ... surprise surprise ... we found the perfect house!

✈ Once back in Belgium, it was time to get our furniture, and everything we wanted to take with us, ready for shipment ...

... which happened on May 29th (and as we only left to Utah on July the 2nd, this meant we camped for a month in our house. Fun fun fun!!! ๐Ÿ˜…)

✈ Now that the house was empty, I could start getting the house ready for the renters (our house has never been this tip top, isn't that typical!) which was again fun fun fun ... pfffff

✈ As a final step, we sold both cars one week before the move, as we couldn't take them with us  ... money, money, money ๐Ÿ˜œ ... which would come sooooo in handy to build our new life!

And then there was of course the mental preparation. We've hesitated to throw a big party for family, friends & colleagues (which are sometimes one and the same thing), but that would have felt as redoing our wedding party ๐Ÿ˜. So we had smaller, more personal, sometimes planned, sometimes ad hoc, or sometimes even surprise dinners and/or drinks.
The evening before THE morning we had our last dinner with friends in our village which ended at 4AM ... 3 hours later we closed the door behind us and headed to the airport ... what a feeling!
